ILCA Oceania – Olympic Qualification Opportunity

Competition to qualify countries for the limited number of places for sailing in the 2024 Paris Olympics (with sailing in Marseilles) is getting underway. There is a description of the Olympic sailing qualifying events and links for more information in a post on our ILCA Australia web site Here and a full description on the Olympics.com web site Here.

For the Women’s and Men’s Dinghy Olympic Events sailed in ILCAs there are 40 Women’s and 40 Men’s places being competed for. 16 of these places in each event will be decided by results from the 2023 Sailing World Championships in the Hague, Netherlands 10-20 August 2023.

After the 2023 World Championships the next chance for Oceania sailors to qualify will come from the Oceania Regional qualifying event which will be at Sail Sydney sailed from Woollahra Sailing Club Sydney, Australia 9-18 December 2023. The event web site is Here. There are two Women’s and 2 Men’s Dinghy (ILCA) places to be awarded from the Sail Sydney Oceania qualifying event.

As has occurred in the past the large nations may qualify through the World Championship events thus creating an improved prospect for smaller countries in each region to gain Olympic selection at respective regional qualifying events.

ILCA Oceania would like to encourage as many Oceania sailors and nations as possible to compete and hopefully be successful in gaining a prestigious Olympic place.

Oceania sailors, clubs and class organisations interested in this Olympic qualifying opportunity should look out for information on the qualifying event web site listed above and on this ILCA Oceania web site.
